Meet our new BlueBound Women Ambassador: Greta Marchegger, windsurfer & all-round water woman!

Greta Marchegger is an Italian water sports enthusiast with a true passion for all things on the water. Growing up on Lake Garda and with a father who’s a former pro windsurfer, she’s been surrounded by the sport from a young age.

As a longtime team rider with NP/JP and now host for global windsurf events, Greta has spent years on the international racing and event circuit, and she brings that experience, along with her vibrant energy, to BlueBound Women as our newest Ambassador. As she puts it, “99% of my life is about windsurfing – lucky me!”

In this short interview, we dive into Greta’s motivations and advice for other waterwomen out there, whether you’re a seasoned windsurfer or just starting on your journey.

Hey Greta, thank you for joining us! So: You love windsurf, wing and surf…How would you sell your sports to someone who has never tried them? What do they give you?

Do what makes you feel most alive and above all happy: windsurfing, wingfoiling, surfing – all the water sports I do are pure soul food to me and there is literally nothing that sets my soul more on fire. I guess it’s also about feeling the closest to nature and completely at one with the elements. That sensation of pure freedom while disconnecting mind from time and space is something so special. No need to mention the rush of adrenaline, fun and joy.

What would you say to someone reading this who is learning right now? Any tips or motivation?

No matter which watersports – they will always challenge you, but they give you so much back and make you a stronger, more passionate, balanced and humble person. Every effort will be worth it because it will change you and make your life so much better, I honestly couldn’t imagine life without it.

And in the end, we never stop learning and growing – no matter if you start a watersport discipline from zero, trying to rise your level or fine tune your style. We all started on a moment from zero and it’s not about being the best athlete our there, but it’s about doing what sets your soul on fire and ultimately be the best version of yourself.

What are your thoughts about women today in watersports and what do you see for the future?

Well, as I grew up in watersports due to my family and have competed for many years in windsurfing and am still working in several different aspects of the watersports industry – I would say I know not only the fun part but also the business behind it after all these years.

Honestly, in terms of equality, we are still far behind – steps like equal prize money, in my opinion there shouldn’t even be the need to discuss this in the 21st century. The reality in daily life, whether on the beach, in the line up or in simple conversations, it is definitely still too unbalanced and testosterone-heavy. I think every woman in water sports has experienced to fact to need to prove herself twice as much as men. But in the end, it only makes us stronger and that’s exactly why it’s so important to keep pushing into the right direction.
